Now that you've passed - avoid accidents!
Research carried out by The AA shows that 17-21 year olds are the age group most at risk on the road. Furthermore, the DVSA states "Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test than at any other time in their driving career. In the first year of driving, one driver in five is involved in an accident. This is mainly down to a lack of driving experience, and this is where Pass Plus comes in."
Pass Plus - becoming an even better driver
Pass Plus is a course that will enable you to pick up skills that might take a lifetime to learn in just six further hours of tuition. And more good news - there is no driving test to take! At the end of the course we simply complete a training report which I'll then send to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. In return, the DVSA will send you a Certificate Of Completion - which could come in very handy with your insurance company.
Safe to drive on Motorways?
Although Provisional Licence holders can now learn to drive on motorways from 2018 provided they are accompanied by an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), nevertheless this skill is not assessed on the current Driving Test. Sooner or later, most drivers will need to select a motorway route, especially if an employer or specific destination requires them to do so. Of course, you can always program your Sat Nav to avoid motorways, but why not gain this skill now? Pass Plus is an excellent introduction to motorway driving and also includes a wealth of other driving skills. The course encompasses the following modules:
- Motorways - joining, leaving, overtaking, planning and awareness
- Dual Carriageways - including major roundabouts
- Cities - navigating via satnav, maps and signposting
- Rural Roads - narrow lanes, passing places, meeting unexpected traffic, animals
- All Weathers - dealing with inclement weather conditions, planning and preparation
- Night-time - preparation and driving skills
Various insurance companies give a discount on motor insurance premiums to drivers who obtain a Pass Plus certificate within a year of passing their driving test. So it's good to know that being armed with a Pass Plus certificate, you could negotiate a better deal with many car insurance companies. You could save more than the cost of your Pass Plus course.
