If you are a Non-UK, Non-EU citizen or not from a 'designated country' and have an ordinary driving licence or a valid international driving permit, you can drive any category of small vehicle in the UK shown on your licence for up to 12 months from the time you became a resident. However, to continue driving, you will need to obtain a Provisional Licence and pass a driving test before the 12 month period elapses.
"As an experienced driver, recently settled in the UK, I was more than a little surprised to find that the UK government required me to take a Theory Test and a Driving Test. All over again! Fortunately, one of my friends recommended driving instructor Bob Harding-Williams. This turned out to be a really good move.
Bob quickly pinpointed exactly which skills needed improving and confirmed where my driving would meet UK driving test standard. He then drew up a training plan to deal with each skill in turn. In fact the sessions were most enjoyable and helpful. And I passed first time! Got my UK drivers license! Thanks Bob!"
